Hey everyone! This week for Birba's Local 622 Live Music Showcase we have the insanely talented Myshkin performing for us. Myshkin is an electroacoustic folk noir singer-songwriter that has toured internationally and won countless awards. Every song she plays is like a mini story, moody, smart, and beautiful and her words and voice are nothing short of inspired! Myshkin's Ruby Warblers is a rotating collective of fellow musicians, travelers and life lovers who play together -- they each bring their own unique sound and perspectives to the songs they perform. Music starts at 7pm this Thursday 4/9 at Birba and ends at 930! Don't forget to check out some of Myshkin's music here before the show and find out more about Myshkin's story below!

Where are you based out of? Joshua Tree
How did you get started? I’ve always sung, I began writing as a teenager. I started my first band and began touring in 1993, when I was based in New orleans where I lived for 10 years. I then spent another decade in Oregon and moved here in 2013.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your music? Lyrically from stories: from family, friends, strangers, my own head. Musically from a very wide catchment: Bach to Bjork, Rokia Traoré to Radiohead, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Nina Simone.
Do you have any loves other than music? I love my people, and the sweet wide world. Forests, deserts, movement, new places, stubborn cultures. and I also love to make things, I love collage and building and have done a bunch of both!
What do you think about when you’re performing? Thats a good question. So many things at once: The story behind the song, how my fingers and vocal chords are behaving, listening to my bandmates, feeling the audience…. sometimes you hit the super sweet spot when everything is aligned and the song just takes over, and you are completely in it.
What else can we expect from you in the future? More shows in the area, sticking close to home for now. And we start recording in April.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Use everything.
Who are you currently listening to? Exploring my partners old jazz lps, lots of ahmad jamal and wes montgomery and such, and seeking out west african beauty: ouma sangare, toumani diabetes, ali farka toure.
What is your secret food craving? I’m addicted to fisherman’s friends. no secret. It's not really a food either!
Do you have any hidden talents? Many!
