Local 622 - Symara Stone

Symara Stone is a wonderful human being inside and out.  Her musical ability is undeniable and as one of the only original Birba staff members, Symara has been with Foundation 10 through it all.  We are so so pleased to have her performing for us this Thursday, March 12th, for our weekly Local 622 live musical showcase!  Her music is unique, sweet, and soulful just as she is! If you take a peek at some of the names of those she collaborates with you can see just how much she truly loves music, creating, and surrounding herself with amazing individuals.  Symara contributes to the community in more ways then just her music, as a yoga instructor she empowers the people around her to make their bodies and minds stronger!  So don't forget to join us, this Thursday, March 12th, from 7-930 PM at Birba and hear the sweet sounds of Symara Stone!

Where are you based out of?  Palm Springs, California... Baby!!!

How Did You Get Started? Well....Ever since I was three, I have been performing on Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs. At a very early age, I knew I wanted to be a Recording Artist & Actress. My parents nurtured my artistic side by encouraging me to take piano lessons, singing lessons, dance classes, & acting classes. I was heavily involved in Musical Theater & the Fine Arts throughout my childhood and even through my teenage years. However as far as songwriting & my music goes, my father bought me my first electric guitar when I was 15. I taught myself how to play by writing songs and figuring them out on the piano and then transposing them on guitar. In my early twenties, I fell in love with the sound of the acoustic guitar. I hosted a few open mics and met a lot of local musicians and began collaborating with them. The rest is well......the present!

Where do you draw inspiration from for your music?  I draw inspiration from artists I've been influenced by, my roots, & daily happenings in my life.  I can definitely see a pattern with songs I wrote in my teens and early twenties. Most of them are about feelings of Heartbreak, Love, and Toxic Relationships that I have experienced in my past. However, Now I feel like I am capable of writing songs when I'm happy, & find myself being more vulnerable when writing songs. Songwriting is so cathartic for me. It is my therapy. When I sit down to write a song, it is usually because I hear a melody in my head & feel so emotionally moved to take the time to be present with those emotions & my guitar. Rather than create drama, I'll use the format of songwriting to get out what I need to let go.

Do you have any loves other than music? Yes! Yoga!  I love to practice asana (postures) & teach yoga as well! It's funny how through Kirtan ( which is singing sanskrit mantras) I am able to blend both the Music World & Yoga World together. I have written some kirtan songs recently, and may just bust one out for this intimate performance.

What else can we expect from you in the future?  A Record. I hope. It costs a pretty penny to produce one so I will be holding a fundraiser to record. As far as performances go, I have no set dates planned. I told myself I was going to take this year off to record, work on marketing myself, & write more songs. Things change though! Like me on Facebook!

Whats the best advice you've ever been given? β€œLive quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you. The future will take care of itself......” β€• Paramahansa Yogananda

Who are you currently listening to? Grizzly Bear, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Mariah Carey, DJ Drez, Lana Del Rey, Sia,  & Odesza.

What is your Secret Food Craving? Lulu's Raw Cacao Maca Buttercups!

Do you have any hidden talents?  I can do a pretty good "Miss Swan" impression from Mad TV.

Is there anything else you'd want us or readers to know? Yes I've written about 60+songs and am looking to record!!  Also, I'm really looking forward to performing Thursday!  Lets be Friends on facebook & instagram!
